First Aid Training: Lighting the Light of Life Guarding

Participating in the "First Aid Companionship, Guarding the Flicker of Life" first aid knowledge training organized by Fuying Electronics was a meaningful journey of life education. It not only equipped me with practical skills but also reshaped my sense of responsibility and courage in the face of emergencies.

At the start of the training, the instructor meticulously explained Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Assessing the patient's consciousness and breathing is the first gateway to initiating first aid. Actions that seem simple, such as tapping and calling loudly, or observing chest rise and fall, are actually crucial judgments between life and death. In the chest compression phase, elements like the compression site (lower half of the sternum), the rate of 100-120 compressions per minute, the depth of 5-6 centimeters, and the requirement for full chest recoil after each compression are all scientifically verified and constitute the core essentials for restarting the heart's power. For AED (Automated External Defibrillator) operation, from decisive power-on, to precise placement of electrode pads, to calm compliance with voice prompts – these few steps build a "lifeline" for cardiac defibrillation. The Heimlich maneuver addresses foreign body airway obstruction, with different techniques for different groups (adults, children, infants). Understanding the principle of using air pressure difference to expel the obstruction deepened my appreciation for the wisdom of everyday first aid.

Practical exercises were the proving ground for applying theory. Initially, my chest compressions were erratic in rhythm and inconsistent in depth. Under the instructor's patient guidance, I gradually adjusted my arm posture and controlled the compression force through repeated practice, moving closer to the standard. When I could coherently perform the CPR sequence of "assessment – compression – ventilation – AED coordination" in a simulated scenario, the sweat on my palms mingled with a profound sense of mission. I genuinely felt the power of first aid skills – they are not just words in a book but tangible "hands" that can truly uphold life.

The training also made me understand the weight of time in first aid. For a patient in cardiac arrest, every minute of delay means a 10% drop in survival rate. The irreversible critical point of brain death occurring within 4-6 minutes highlights that the on-site responder is the "ferryman of life." The "Good Samaritan law" provision in the Civil Code, which exempts voluntary rescuers from civil liability, removes the hesitation of "daring to rescue," yet "knowing how to rescue" is the prerequisite for making good intentions effective.

Moving forward, I will not only internalize this first aid knowledge as instinct but also become a disseminator of the "first aid spark." I will educate my family about the Heimlich maneuver, teach colleagues the basic operation of an AED, and empower more people to grasp the "relay baton" of life guarding. Because every individual equipped with first aid skills is a node in society's first aid network. When there are enough nodes, they can weave a safety net for protecting life.

This training empowered me with knowledge and, more importantly, entrusted me with responsibility. It made me understand that first aid is not the "privilege" of professionals but a "survival capability" every member of society should possess. In the future, I aspire to use what I have learned as a shield, to bravely extend a helping hand when others face life-threatening crises, transforming first aid knowledge into a glimmer of light for life, piercing through darkness, igniting hope, and turning "guarding life" from a slogan into real acts of support and endurance, time and again.
