【121】The dignity of the inspector: When the client said "I trust your eyes"

Lao Li has been working as a quality inspector in our company for fifteen years, progressing from an apprentice to the quality inspection department head. Last week, he retired. Six clients, including BYD, Huawei, and Gree, sent thank-you letters all at once. In BYD's letter, there was a sentence: "The inspection reports signed by Master Li are always directly warehoused without review."

Behind this sentence lies the persistent dedication of a pair of eyes over a period of fifteen years, and the support of a testing system for this dedication.

In 2008, when Mr. Li first joined the company, there were only three calipers and two projectors. The inspection process was basically done by eye observation and manual touch. Once a batch of products exceeded the tolerance limit, Mr. Li insisted on scrapping them. The production supervisor argued with him: "It's all within the tolerance range. The customers won't know!" Mr. Li wouldn't budge: "I know, and my conscience knows too."

That batch of goods eventually ended up being scrapped. Old Li was isolated by the people in the workshop for quite a while. But three months later, that client actively increased the order because: "Your batch stability is the best."

As the company grew, the testing equipment was constantly upgraded, from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, from hardness testers to spectrometers. Someone joked to Old Li: "The machines are getting more and more accurate. You, the veteran, are going to be laid off." Old Li always smiled: "The more accurate the machines are, the more valuable my eyes become."

The value of what he said lies in discovering problems that machines cannot detect. Once, all the test data for a batch of products were合格 (qualified), but Old Li always felt that the surface luster was not right. He insisted on holding back this batch of goods and used a microscope to observe carefully. Finally, after magnifying it 500 times, he discovered the problem - there was a 0.005-millimeter scratch on the mold, causing an almost invisible pattern on the product's surface. This problem did not affect the functionality, but it would affect the consistency of the appearance. After the mold was polished, the problem was solved.

" Machines can measure data, but they can't understand the customers' aesthetic preferences," Old Li often says. "Our inspectors have to ensure that the customers' unimagined requirements are also covered."

Our testing system has provided the greatest support to inspectors like Mr. Li. Any doubts can be thoroughly investigated, and any suspicious products can be temporarily halted from circulation. The inspectors' judgment always takes precedence over the production schedule. Once, to confirm a suspected defect, Mr. Li halted the production line for two hours. It turned out to be a false alarm in the end. The production manager had complaints, but the general manager merely said, "If Master Li says to stop, then it must be stopped."

This trust gave the inspectors a true sense of dignity. They knew they were not looking for faults, but were safeguarding the company's lifeline. During each client review, the inspectors could calmly show the clients any part of the process because they had no fear in their hearts and had the data in their hands.

On the day of his retirement, Old Li left his work notes to his apprentice. On the last page of the notes, it read: "The hands of the inspector can tremble, but the heart must not tremble; the eyes can be unfocused, but the standards must not be."

Now, we have more advanced equipment and a more complete system. However, the meticulous spirit left by Old Li has been integrated into every testing process. When a client says, "I believe in your test report," what they truly believe in is not the paper itself, but the group of people like Old Li who are unwilling to compromise.

Each signature on the inspection report is a declaration of commitment - the Golden Eagle Quality Inspection Team is safeguarding your trust with professionalism.
