The only conclusion is this: Biodegradable PLA isn’t impossible to injection mold—it’s that most injection molding factories don’t know how to mold it. PLA is temperature-sensitive, crystallizes slowly, and has a narrow processing window. If you use a standard injection molding machine for PLA, you’ll end up with either mold sticking or brittle parts—products so bad you can’t bear to look at them. There’s a common misconception in the industry: that eco-friendly materials mean compromising on performance. Many factories try PLA a few times, find that the products are brittle, deform easily, and have low production efficiency, and then conclude—PLA is no good. In reality, it’s not the material that’s the problem; it’s the process. PLA requires precisely controlled mold temperatures, a specially designed screw, and an optimized cooling system—capabilities that traditional injection molding shops simply don’t have. To make matters worse, some manufacturers cut costs by blending ordinary plastics into PLA, selling fake biodegradable products under the guise of being eco-friendly. This behavior not only deceives customers but also destroys the reputation of the entire bioplastics industry.

A coffee machine brand based in Shenzhen, exporting to Europe, once had a batch of products detained by customs. The products were labeled “biodegradable,” but third-party testing found that the PLA components contained ordinary PP, failing to meet the EU’s EN13432 biodegradability standard. The batch was destroyed, resulting in a loss of over 2 million RMB. When they came to us, they had just one requirement: use 100% pure PLA to make products with performance equal to ordinary plastics. We redesigned the mold’s cooling system, kept the mold temperature within PLA’s optimal crystallization range, and adjusted the screw’s compression ratio to ensure uniform plasticization. The first batch of samples came out with strength and toughness reaching 80% of ABS, while fully passing EU biodegradability certification. Today, all of this customer’s PLA orders are handled by us.
