Working Principle of Motor Coils
A single - phase motor is equipped with two inductive coils, namely the main coil and the auxiliary coil. As a single - phase sinusoidal current passes through the main coil, it generates an alternating pulsating magnetic field. The strength of this magnetic field changes with the sinusoidal current at all times, yet it always maintains a direction of 1 - 3. In the absence of the force provided by other coils, the single - phase motor will stop rotating after turning 90 degrees. To make it rotate continuously, in addition to the force from the main coil, the auxiliary coil is also needed. If you want the auxiliary coil to provide a force perpendicular to the direction of the main coil, you must supply it with another phase of current. When the same phase of current is applied, the directions of the forces they generate are also the same. But how does a single - phase motor work with only single - phase power? Here, capacitive phase shifting is used. In simple terms, a capacitor is connected in series to the circuit that needs phase shifting, causing a change in the current phase. First, the sinusoidal alternating current enters from point a. Part of it supplies power to the main coil, and the other part undergoes phase shifting through the capacitor. Due to the phase difference between the two - phase currents, the magnetic field forces generated by the coils also occur at different times. In this way, the thrust from the main coil and then the thrust from the auxiliary coil are obtained, enabling rotation. To reverse the rotation of the single - phase motor, just switch the power supply line connected to point A in the above diagram to point B, while keeping the power supply line connected to point C unchanged. Before the switch, the main coil uses sinusoidal alternating current with zero phase, and the auxiliary coil uses phase - shifted sinusoidal alternating current. After the power line is switched to point B, the auxiliary coil uses sinusoidal alternating current with zero phase, and the main coil uses phase - shifted sinusoidal alternating current. When the current phase changes, the directions of the magnetic field forces generated by the two coils and the rotation direction also change.
